Colossal skirt

Yves Zhao
Textiles, waxed cotton, fabric stiffener, mould
A colossal skirt designed to be worn by a group of 12 individuals. What sets this skirt apart is its ingenious adaptability - it can be disassembled and transformed into an outfit suitable for a single person.

This project draws inspiration from the collective society of 1960s China, where individuals often found themselves submerged in a sea of collectivism, leading to the erasure or suppression of their unique personalities.

Craftsmanship, longevity, resourcefulness and frugality are key drivers for this collection.
